The process by which Vodka is made is by fermenting and distilling simple sugars from a mash of pale grain or vegetal matter. Vodka can be made from almost any fermentable material, from whey to molasses. It can be made from beets, wheat and grapes. Vodka can even be made from potatoes!

Though traditionally a martini is a cocktail made using gin and vermouth with an olive or lemon twist, the ingredients used to make a martini have become the source of much debate and discussion. Do you use vodka or gin? Should it be shaken or stirred in ice? Should it be garnished with olives or a lemon twist? However you choose to mix your martini should be determined by personal preference. Though many will argue that a true martini uses gin, not vodka.
